Backend & Autonomous Systems Software Developer

Hi, I'm Mehmet Ali Yayla. I graduated in Computer Engineering from Sivas Cumhuriyet University and I'm pursuing a thesis-based master's degree at Ondokuz Mayıs University. I build microservice architectures with Java and Spring Boot, and full-stack web apps with React, Next.js and Node.js.

Since 2023 I have been developing UAV software with the CASA team. In 2026 I worked on the ground control station, the competition server link, computer-vision-based autonomous lock-on and offboard flight control. Our team was one of 42 finalists out of 1,032 applications in the TEKNOFEST 2026 Fighter UAV Competition.

Since 2020 I have also been building corporate, e-commerce and admin-panel websites for businesses as a freelancer.

Experience

  1. 2023 – 2026

    Autonomous Systems Software Developer

    CASA UAV Team · Sivas University of Science and Technology

    • Built a ground control station that works alongside QGroundControl using PyQt and HTML/JavaScript; it ran without issues at the final.
    • Streamed UAV telemetry to the competition server via a MAVLink proxy and a Python data bridge, receiving rival UAV and no-fly zone data in return.
    • Developed rival UAV detection with YOLOv8n and a lock-on algorithm in Python; the model ran on an NVIDIA Jetson with TensorRT.
    • Validated, in runway tests, control code that switches a UAV flying a mission into offboard mode mid-flight and steers it.

  2. 2020 – Present

    Web Developer (Freelance)

    Samsun, Türkiye

    • Built and launched 15+ corporate, e-commerce and content-managed websites with React, Next.js, Node.js and MongoDB.
    • Delivered admin-panel websites to organizations and businesses, including the IHH Samsun Branch.

  3. June – August 2023

    R&D Intern

    Helimore Aviation, Samsun

    • Worked with the R&D team on agricultural spraying operations using DJI UAVs with a 50 kg payload.
    • Researched flight controllers and autopilot software and presented technical evaluations to the team.
